Vehicles Pass Between Us
The shopping had gone better than last week. Jack had been quite chilled, jammed in the cool metal mesh of the trolley seat. Rather than being whiney and irritable he seemed more interested in soaking up the many visual inputs the supermarket had to offer.

Unpacking she tried to engage Jack. Holding up a banana she asked, “what colour?”
He thought for a second, “red!”
   “No. Yellow. Yellow.”
   “Yellow,” he mimicked.
   “Good boy, Jack.”
Then a cabbage. “What colour is the cabbage?”
   “Green.”
“Well done Jack. The cabbage is green. Well done my clever boy.” She handed him a chocolate button.
   Then an orange. “What colour?”

Jack knew what an orange was. He also knew the colour orange. He was smart, but what he did not understand was the question. As he was trying to work this puzzle out the phone rang.
   “ELEPHONT!”
