Fear

In the mid-eighties a wealthy, young American left the United States and retired to South America. He built a house in a mostly uninhabited area deep in the rain forest at the northern most tip of the Andes. It was ten miles outside of Barquisimento, a city in Venezuela. If that means anything to you. As well the house he constructed a challenge for his own entertainment. A set of beams across a ravine with a deathly drop. The beams were less that 60 yards in length and 6 inches wide. If you could cross the beams both ways you would be presented with the prize of $100,000. Which at the time was a considerable amount of money in any country. Written on the beam across were the words: Fear is on the inside. The beam back read: One cannot lie without a full understanding of the truth. The beam back was understandably greater in length. Although the wealthy, young American had brought a considerable amount of money into the Venezuelan economy the government got nervous and politely asked him to leave. Many Venezuelans had perished attempting the challenge. They say the beams, the challenge and associated prize still exist, as long as you can find them deep in the heart of a place no-one really ventures. |
